Eagle Pass North Agents Seize 470-pounds of Marijuana

Del Rio, Texas – CBP U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle
Pass North Station seized more than $300,000 worth of marijuana Monday morning.

Agents working in the Quemado area around 10 a.m. Monday attempted to
stop a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck. The pickup sped away, stopping near the Rio
Grande River, where the two occupants jumped out and fled across the river to
Mexico.

Agents recovered six large bundles from the back of the pickup,
containing a total of 470 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of
$376,000. The marijuana was turned over to agents of U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency
within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control
and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of
entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the
country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
