Police Activity City of Tonawanda, NY East Niagara St at Youngs Street

Police Activity

City of Tonawanda, NY

Tonawanda Underwater Rescue Team and volunteer firemen sped down Niagara Street in the early morning hours this morning. Their destination was the Erie Barge Canal between the railroad bridge and the Longs' homestead. More specifically, the destination was East Niagara Street at Fillmore Avenue.

Forensics were on scene making off blemishes in the soil with small cones. These marks appear equal in distance apart and from behind the police tape, resembled automobile tire tracks leading to the embankments edge. No automobile could be seen. An investigation was underway and no official statement was being offered at the time.

The area was being cordened off by Tonawanda Fire Police as the Underwater Team continued their work on this chilly and clear 34 degree morning.

No further details at this time. Motorists should avoid area, as it is an active crime scene.

ROAD CLOSURES:
East Niagara is Closed from Filmore Avenue to the Railroad Bridge. Motorists must turn around at the railroad bridge.

Filmore Avenue is closed from just before the scene. Motorists may be advised to use the bridge near the DPW Garage on Youngs Street to avoid the scene.

PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC
East Niagara Street and Bridge to North Tonawanda is DISCOURAGED
Tonawanda Fire Police as it is directly above the scene and pedestrians will be approached and asked to leave the area.
