National Flood Insurance Helps Elevate Old Hickory Home

Nashville, Tenn. – On the afternoon flood waters raged through his community, Harding Brewster saw real fear in the eyes of his Old Hickory, Tenn, neighbors.

The water rose so fast, many residents found themselves trapped in their own homes. Brewster and his wife, Jona, decided to get an old fishing boat they had stored in the backyard ready to use just in case.
“I told my neighbors, ‘When the boat floats off its trailer, we’ll get in it,’” Mr. Brewster recalls.  “Well, almost as soon as I said that, the water got that high.”

The old boat safely ferried the Brewsters and dozens of their neighbors to higher ground that afternoon. The couple’s home, however, was a mess.

Fortunately, the Brewsters were well-prepared. The couple held a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy, so the cost of repairing their home was covered.(More info click here) .
