NYSDOT URGES DRIVER CAUTION DURING UPCOMING STORM
With snowfall expected, New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald is urging motorists to recognize the benefits of slow and cautious driving during winter storm weather.  McDonald is asking drivers to remember: “By slowing down, giving snow plows room to work and allowing extra time to get to your destination, we can save lives on New York’s highways this winter.”
Although NYSDOT plows will be out in full force, snow may continue to accumulate quickly on the roadways, creating dangerous travel conditions.  Avoid unnecessary travel and check 511 or 511ny.org for the latest road condition reports.
NYSDOT also recommends having a cell phone handy, if possible, but do not call or text while driving.  Never venture from your vehicle if snowbound, and equip your car with emergency supplies, including sand, shovel, flares, booster cables, rope, ice scraper, portable radio, flashlight, food, whistle, blankets and extra warm clothes.  It is also recommended that motorists inform a responsible person of their destination, intended route and estimated time of arrival.
