CBP Stops 68-Year-Old in California With Almost 200 Pounds of Marijuana



Andrade, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Andrade port of entry stopped a 68-year-old man Thursday with almost 200 pounds of marijuana.
At about 6 p.m. on December 23, the U.S. citizen and resident of Yuma, Ariz., drove a white 1997 Ford Explorer to the border crossing, where a CBP officer referred him for further inspection.
A CBP officer with a narcotic detector dog screened the vehicle, and the canine alerted.

Officers found 67 packages hidden throughout the vehicle, including in all four tires, containing a total of 197 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $90,000.
CBP officers seized the vehicle and narcotics, and turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. He will face criminal charges.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
